Driving Cross Country (미국 대륙횡단) - Oklahoma (오클라호마)

오늘은 긴 여행 날이 될 것 같군요. 알칸사스 주 (Arkansas)에서 시작하여 오클라호마 (Oklahoma), 텍사스 (Texas)를 구경하며 뉴 멕시코 (New Mexico)까지 4 주를 지나 가는 하루 입니다. Today will be a long day to travel. We will be crossing four states starting from Arkansas and ending in New Mexico with stops in Oklahoma and Texas.

오클라호마 주 여행 (Trip through Oklahoma):

하이웨이 40번을 따라 서쪽으로 여행하며 오클라호마에 들어서서 약간 놀란 것은 호박 색갈의 토양이 었습니다. 이런 토양 색갈을 본 적이 없었기 때문입니다. 이 색갈은 토양에 이온 성분이 많이 포함되어 있기 때문이라네요. 또 하나 놀란 것은 첫번 휴게소에서 였습니다. 주정부 교통부 직원의 수고를 기념하기 위해 세워진 기념비가 인상적이었습니다. 2002년에 바지선이 다리 난간과 충돌 하였을 때 인명 피해를 줄이는 데 공을 세웠다고 하네요.

Traveling westward into Oklahoma on the Interstate Highway 40, it was a bit of surprise to see the pumpkin-colored soil. I had never seen soil that color which is caused by high ion content. Another surprise was at the first rest area. It was impressive to see a memorial for the dedication of employee of Oklahoma Department of Transportation. In 2002, when four spans of river bridge collapsed by a barge collision with the bridge, his leadership and effort limited the loss of life.

After the stop at Pops in Acadia, Oklahoma, the sign shows the way to the Oklahoma City National Memorial which is located in Oklahoma City downtown.

동쪽 주차장에서 국립 기념비로 걸어가다 보면 9:01 문 건너 편에 작은 옥외 기도실이 있습니다. 이 기도실은 폭탄 테러가 있은 후 이 곳을 방문하는 가족들, 친구들, 방문객들이 기도하며 사색할 수 있는 장소가 필요하다고 느낀 제일 연합 감리교회 목사님의 수고로 이루어 졌습니다. 이 마음의 기도실 (Heartland Chapel)을 건축하는데 유태인과 모슬림들의 적지 않은 후원금이 있었습니다. 또한 기도실의 제단은 무너진 건물들의 벽돌 조각으로 조립되었습니다. 폭격으로  이 교회 교인들은 3년간 떠나 있었으나 교회당을 개축하였을 뿐 만아니라 더 커졌습니다.

Walking toward the memorial from the east parking lot, there is a small. open-air chapel across the street from 9:01 gate of the memorial. The chapel was the result of effort by the pastor of First United Methodist Church who, soon after bombing,  recognized a need for a place where the family, friends and visitors on the site to pray and contemplate. The Heartland Chapel was built with substantial donations from Jewish and Muslim communities and the altar was built with actual bricks from the damaged buildings. Even though the bombing displaced the church congregation for three years, the church has been rebuilt and actually enlarged.

Oklahoma City National Memorial (오클라호마 시 국립기념지):

오클라호마 시 국립 기념지는 1995년 4월 19일에 일어난 폭탄 테러 희생자, 생존자, 구조원, 그리고 이 테러로 영향을 받은 모든 사람들을 기리기 위해 세워진 기념지 입니다. 이 기념지는 전 엘프레드 무라 (Alfred Murrah) 연방 건물이 있던 곳에 세워졌습니다. 기념비 디자인은 비극을 세심하고 인상적으로 표현하였습니다. 이곳을 방문한 것은 이번 여행 중 오래 기억에 남을 추억입니다.

The Oklahoma City National Memorial is a memorial that honors the victims, survivors, rescuers and all who were affected by the bombing on April 19, 1995. It is located on the former site of the Alfred Murrah Federal Building. Memorial design was well thought and impressive representing the tragedy. It was one of unforgettable experience of this trip.


청동으로 만들은 "시간의 문 (Gates of time)"은 동 서 양쪽에 있는데 동쪽에 있는 9:01 문은 폭파 발생 전 마지막 순간의 평화를 상징하는 것이고 서쪽에 있는 9:03 문은 회복의 첫 시간을 상징하며 이 두문이 파괴의 순간 9:02 을 감싸고 있음을 상징합니다.
The Gates of Time made with bronze is erected facing each other at the east and west end of memorial. While the 9:01 gate at ease entrance represents the last moments of peace before the bombing, the 9:03 gate represents the first moments of recovery after the bombing. The two gates frame the moment of destruction, 9:02.

야외에 있는 "빈 의자들의 뜰 (Field of Empty Chairs)"은 168 명의 희생자들을 기념하며 한 사람 한 사람의 이름이 새겨져 있는 의자는 그 가족들의 저녁 밥상의 빈 자리를 뜻합니다. 9 줄로 정열된 의자들은 푹발 당시 희생자들이 있던 각 층을 상징 합니다. 19 개의 작은 의자는 폭파 때 희생당한 어린이들을 상징합니다.
The outdoor Field of Empty Chairs honors 168 people who lost their lives. The chairs with a etched name represent the empty chairs at the tables of the victims's families. The chairs are arranged in  nine rows which symbolize the floor on which each person was at the time of blast. The 19 smaller chairs represent the children killed in the bombing.

기념지 한가운데 있는 길이가 97 미터인 "반경못 (Reflecting Pool)"은 윤이 나는 검은 대리석 위로 2.54 cm 깊이의 물이 동쪽에서 서쪽으로 흐르는 못입니다. 방문객들이 반경못에 비추어진 자기 얼굴을 볼 때 "이 곳에서 생긴 일로 인하여 영원히 변한 한 사람"을 본다는 뜻입니다.
The 318 ft long Reflecting Pool which runs from east to west down the center of the Memorial is formed by the 1 inch layer of water flowing over the polished black granite. The water runs from east to west down the center of the Memorial. Visitors seeing their reflection on the pool are seeing "someone changed forever by what happened here".

기념지 북쪽에 있는 느릅나무는 무라 건물 길건너 주차장에 그늘을 느리던 단 한그루의 나무 였습니다. 이 나무는 100년이 넘은 나무인데 통근자들이 이 나무 그늘에 차를 세우기 위헤 일찍 출근했다고 합니다. 많은 유리와 파편들이 나무 몸통에 박혔고 나무 밑에 세워 두었던 차들이 불타면서 검게 그을렀기 때문에 아무도 이 나무가 살아 남을 것이라고 짐작을 못했습니다. 그러나 사람들이 일주년 기념식에 모였을 때 이 나무는 다시 꽃을 피기 시작하였습니다. 이 "생존의 나무 (Survivor Tree)"는 아직도 번성하고 있고 기념지 설계는 이 나무를 특별히 포함하고 보존할 것을 지시하고 있습니다.

생존의 나무를 둘러싼 담장 안에 새겨진 글은:
이 도시와 이 나라의 정신은 무너지지 않을 것이다. 우리들의 마음 속 깊이 뿌리 박은 믿음이 우리들을 유지하여 것이다.

An elm tree on the north side of memorial was the only shade tree in the parking lot across from the Murrah Building. It was about 100 yeas old and commuters arrived early to get the shady parking spots provided by its branches. Even though nobody expected the tree to survive after glass and debris were embedded in its trunk and it was blackened by the fire from the cars parked beneath, it was beginning to bloom again when people gathered for the first memorial. The Survive Tree now thrives and the memorial design mandates to feature and protect the tree.

The inscription around the inside deck around the Survivor Tree reads:
The spirit of this city and this nation will not be defeated, our deeply rooted faith sustains us.

생존의 나무 뒷 편에 있는 건물은 기록청 이었지만 지금은 오클라호마 시티 국립 기념 박물관으로 사용되고 있습니다. 이 건물의 남쪽 외벽은 폭파의 충격과 피괴력이 얼마만 하였는지를 보여줍니다.

기념지역은 입장료 없이 구경할 수 있지만 기념관은 입장료가 12불입니다,

The building behind the Survivor Tree formerly housed the House of Recording, but now houses the Oklahoma City National Memorial Museum. The south facade of the building reminds the visitors the impact and raw power of the blast.

The memorial ground is free to the public, but there is $12/adult fee for the museum.

분수대가 있는 엘프레드 무라 (Alfred Murrah) 연방 정부 광장은 폭파 테러 전 연방 정부 청사가 있던 장소이며 국기 계양대는 전 청사 앞에 있던 계양대 입니다.
The Alfred Murrah Federal Building plaza with the fountain is located at the plaza of the original federal building before the bombing and the original flag pole is used for the American flag.

테러 사건 후에 미국 전역과 카나다에서 어린이들이 손으로 그린 5000 개가 넘는 도자기 타일을 오클라호마 시로 보냈습니다. 그 중 몇개를 기념관 서 쪽에 있는 "어린이 광장 (Children's Area)" 벽에 쌓아 놓았습니다.
More than 5000 hand-painted ceramic tiles, from all over the United States and Canada, were made by children and sent to Oklahoma City after the bombing. A sampling of tiles is on the wall in the Children's Area which is located on the west of the museum.

점심 후 들리지 하고선 잊어버리고 저희는 그냥 왔지만 "9:03 시간의 문" 건너편에 세인트 죠셉 성당에서 세운 "우는 예수 (And Jesus Wept)" 조각이 있습니다. 예수님의 얼굴은 폭파 장소 반대편을 바라 보고 있고 손으로 얼굴을 가리우고 있습니다.
Even though we forgot to stop after the lunch, there is the 'And Jesus Wept" sculpture erected by St Joseph's Catholic Church across the street from the "9:03 gate".  Jesus faces away from the devastation covering his face with his hand.

점심 시간이 되어 기념지 근처에 있는 타이 식당에 들렸습니다. 마침 점심 부페가 있기에 부페를 먹었는데 가격도 (7불 50전) 웬만했고 맛도 괜찮았습니다.
We stopped at Thai Kitchen for the lunch since it was close to the Memorial. We tried the lunch buffet ($7.50). The price was reasonable and the food was tasty.

Driving Cross Country (미국 대륙횡단) - Route 66 (루트 66)

역사적인 루트 66(Route 66)을 경험해 보기 위해서 별로 크게 우회를 하지 않아도 되고 루트 66에 있는 오클라호마 (Oklahoma)에 있는 팦스(Pops)와 텍사스 (Texas)에 있는 미드포인트 카페 (Midpoint Cafe)를 들렸습니다. "모의 길 (Mother Road)"이라고도 불리우는 미국 루트 66은 초기 하이웨이 중의 하나였으며 일리노이 시카고에서 시작하여 켈리포니아 로스엘젤레스에서 끝납니다. 이 길은 1930년도에 서쪽으로 이주하는 사람들의주 통로였으며 그 길을 따라 있는 마을들을 먹여 살렸습니다.
To experience the historic Route 66, we stopped at Pops in Oklahoma and Midpoint Cafe in Texas which does not require a long detour. US Route 66, also known as the Mother Road, was one of original US highways. It ran from Chicago, Illinois to Los Angeles, California. It was a major path for those who migrated west in the 1930s and it supported the economies of towns along the path.

팦스 (Pops) 가게에 있는 소다 병과 빨대 조각은 무게가 4톤에 높이가 20 미터에 달하며 루트 66에 있는 유명한 주요 지형지물입니다. 밤에는 LED를 사용한 여러가지 색갈의 빛의 쇼를 보여 줍니다. 이 가게는 730 종류가 넘는 소다, 루트 비어, 크림소다를 판매합니다. 저희들도 몇가지 독득한 소다를 마셔 보았는데 우회에서 간 것이 충분한 가치가 있었습니다.
The sculpture of a soda bottle and straw at Pops is 66 ft high weighting 8000 lb and is one of well known landmark along the route 66. It provides a  multi-colored light show with LED lights at night. They have over 730 selection of sodas, root bear and cream sodas. We have tried few unique sodas and it was worth a detour.

만약 루트 66 길 전부를 여행하신다면 이곳에 서서 중간까지 왔다는 것을 자축할 수 있습니다. 이 카페는 지금의 모습 전에는 원래 젤라 크림 (Zella Crim)이 세워 젤라 라고 불리웠습니다. 저희들이 들렸을 때는 케페가 문을 닫아 그 유명하다는 못생긴 파이 껍질의 파이(Ugly Crust Pie)를 먹어 보지 못했네요.
If you are traveling the entire length of Route 66, this is the place to stop and celebrate since you have made it halfway. This cafe was once called Zella's built by Zella Crim before it took the present appearances. The store was closed when we stopped at the cafe and we did not have a chance to taste the famous Ugly Crust Pie.

오클라호마 시에서 텍사스를 지나 뉴 멕시코 알버커키까지는 현 하이웨이 40 번이 루트 66와 같은 길이니 텍사스 구름에 있는 십자가도 루트 66에 있는 방문지가 되겠습니다.
Since Route 66 is the same as the present Interstate highway 40 from Oklahoma City to Albuquerque through Texas, the Cross at Groom, TX is also one of the places to visit on Route 66.

오늘은 리틀 록 (Little Rock City) 시가 중심에 인종 차별 폐지 운동의 하나로 유명해진 리틀 록 센트럴 고둥학교 (Little Rock Central High School)를 거쳐 빌 클링톤 대통령 고향으로 유명한 핫 스프링으로 향합니다.
We headed today to Hot Springs, Arkansas where President Bill Clinton grew up after a brief stop at Little Rock Central High School. The school was famed as a symbol of race discrimination movement.

입구가 한국의 대학 건물 같은 이 고둥학교는 미국 공립학교 인종 차별 폐지 운동의 역활로 유명해진 학교\입니다. 9명의 흑인 학생을 그때까지 학생들이 전부 백인이었던 이 학교에 미 대법원의 공립학교 차별 폐지 결정에 따라 입학시킨 것입니다. 이 건물은 아직도 고등학교로 사용되고 있기에 저희들은 사진만 찍기로 하였습니다. 학교 건물은 문화재로 지정되어 있지만 애석하게도 학교 주변은 나빠 지고 있는 것 같았습니다. 저희들은 아침에 너무 읽찍이라 들리지 못했지만 학교 옆에 안내소가 있습니다.

The high school is recognized for the role it played in the desegregation of public schools in the United States. The admission of nine black African American students to the formerly all-white high school was the most prominent example of implementation of US Supreme Court ruling ordering integration of public school. Since the building is still used as a high school. we only stopped for the photo opportunity. But, sadly, it looks like the neighborhood is deteriorating even though the school is designated as National Historic Landmark. There is a visitor center near the school even though we could not visit since we were too early in the morning.

핫 스프링스 국립공원은 다른 공원과 달리 핫 스프링스 시 북쪽를 감싸는 도시 공원입니다. 온천은 온천장들이 있는 부근에서만 나오고 그 주변을 둘러 싸고 도시가 형성된 것입니다. 온천장 길과 그랜드 산책로가 걸으면서 지나간 시간을 즐길 수 있습니다. 또한 아직 벅스테프 온천장에서는 옛날에 즐기던 온천을 즐길 수가 있는데 마음은 간절한데 저희들은 시간이 허락하지 않았습니다. 이 지역의 많은 온천장들이 온천 물이 나온다고 하지만 정말 온천이 나오는 곳은 정해져 있습니다. 핫 스프리스는 빌 클링턴 전 대통령의 고향으로도 유명해 졌습니다.

Hot Springs National Park is in an urban area, surrounding the north end of the city of Hot Springs. The hot springs only emerge in the Bathhouse Row area because the town grew around the hot springs. Bathhouse Row and Grand Promenade provides places to stroll and enjoy a bygone time. Also, you can still take a traditional bath at the Buckstaff Baths, but the time did not allow us the opportunity even though our earnestly wished to try. It is known that only few bathhouses have real hot springs even though most of bathhouses claim that they also have it. Hot Springs is also known as the home town of former President Clinton.

온천장 문화재 건물들은 르네상스식 건물식으로 지어졌습니다.
The bathhouse landmark buildings were built following Renaissance architecture.

지금 있는 66 미터 높이의 전망대 (입장료: 어른 7불)는 1983년에 세워졌고 핫 스프링스 주변의 경치가 한 눈에 들어 온다고 합니다. 그러나 전망대 주차장 바로 밑에 있는 곳에서 보는 경치도 볼만합니다. 또한 공짜이고요.

The 216 foot tower ($7/adult) which was build in 1983 provides a place to enjoy the panoramic view of Hot Springs. But, there is a place to enjoy the similar view at the base of tower parking lot. One more incentive is that it is free.

이 식당은 클링톤 대통령이 자랄 때 즐겨 먹었다는 바베큐 집입니다. 그러나 저희들에게는 실망만 준 식당이기도하고요. 식당 벽에는 이 집을 방문한 유명객들의 사진들이 걸려있었지만 이 집 보다 훨씬 더 맛있는 바베큐 식당들이 많습니다.
This restaurant is famous as Bill Clinton's favorite BBQ place., but it was disappointment for us. The walls were decorated with some of famous people, but we had better BBQ at other places.

오틀클라호마를 향해 가면서 저녁 노을이 아름다워서요.
The sun set was just too beautiful to miss while heading toward Oklahoma.

침대는 편했는데 변소 청소가 제대로 되어 있지가 않았습니다 (샤워 커튼이 짧아 보였거든요). 아침 식사는 생각보다 무척 좋았습니다.
The bed was comfortable, but the bathroom was not thoroughly cleaned (Found out by accident because of the short shower curtain). The hot breakfast was very good.

미국 심장학회에 의하면 메년 40만명이 병원이 아닌 곳에서 심장마비를 일으키며 그 중 90 퍼센트가 사망한다고 합니다. 의사들에 의하면 갑자기 심장마비가 왔을 때 단지 119에 전화하고 응급대원들이 오는 것을 기다리는 것만으로는 충분한 대처가 되는 것이아니라고 합니다. 응급대원들이 도착할 때쯤으면 소생 확룰이 거진 없다고 합니다.
The American Heart Association (AHA) says that early 40,000 Americans experience cardiac arrest outside a hospital every year, and almost 90 % dies. When someone is in sudden cardiac arrest, just calling 911 and waiting for the paramedics is not enough. By the time the paramedics arrive, the chance of survival is often zero.

오래 동안 심폐 소생술을 할 때 A-B-C 순서인 기도 (Airway)를 열고, 숨(Breath)을 불어 넣어주고, 가슴 압박 (Compression)을 하는 순서 였습니다. 그러나 2010년 심장학회는 순서를 C-A-B 로 바꾸어 가슴 압박을 먼저 시도 하도록 바꾸었습니다. 더 나아가 압박 속도를 적어도 일분에 100번, 어른은 적어도 5 cm 정도 들어 가도록 눌러주는 것을 강조하였습니다. 심장학회에 의하면 자동 세도제거기를 사용할 수 있을 때까지 곧 바로 심폐 소생술을 시작하면 소생 확률이 제일 높다고 합니다.
For years CPR began with the A-B-C sequence which starts with the opening the Airways and delivery of Breaths followed by chest Compression.. But in 2010 AHA changes the guideline from the A-B-C to C-A-B putting the compression first. It emphasized the need for a compression rate of at least 100 per minute and a compression depth of at least 2 inches for adults. You will have the best chance of saving a life if you start CPR right away and then use an automatic external defibrillator (AED).

또한 몇년의 연구 결과에 의하면 관례적 심폐 소생술보다 손으로만 하는 심폐 소생술 (가슴 압박)이 더 간단하고 편한 대안일 수 있다고 합니다. 속도를 맞추기 위해서는 지금 듣고 계시는 노래 "Staying Alive" 박자에 맞추시면 된다고 합니다. 이 노래를 부르며 가슴뼈 아래쪽을 쎄게 빠르게 눌러 준다면 당신은 환자의 소생률을 2배 3배 올립니다.
After years of research it was found that Hands-only CPR (chest compression) can be a simpler and more comfortable alternative to the conventional method. The rate of compression needed is the beat of the song "Stay Alive" which you are listening. If you push hard and fast on the lower half of the victim's breastbone while singing the song, you can double or triple a person's chance of survival.

리틀 록 고등학교 (Little Rock Central High School)에 들린 후 핫 스프링스 국리공원 (Hot Springs National Park)에 가는 도중에 가반 우드랜들 수목원 (Garvan Woodland Garden)에 들렸습니다. 이 곳은 미국 다른 곳에 있는 식물원들을 보았기에 들릴까 말까하다 들리기로 결정한 곳입니다.

After the visit at Little Rock Central High School, we stopped at Garvan Woodland Gardens before we traveled to Hot Springs National Park. This was one of the destinations that we were pondering to "visit or not visit" since we have seen other botanical garden in the nation.

가반 수목원은 미국 다른 지역에 있는 수목원보다 규모가 작았고 창시자 배라 가반 (Vera Garvan)의 유지를 따라 알칸사스 대학에서 운영하고 있습니다. 이 수목원은 거의 전부가 그늘 밑에 있어 "우드랜드"라는 명칭이 이름에 포함된 것입니다.

저희들이 수목원을 방문한 날은 날씨가 무척 더워 수목원 전부가 저희들 차지 였습니다. 수목원은 무착 아름다웠고 평원한 곳이었습니다. 이번 방문은 입장료 10불, 시간과 노력이 정말 가치 있었습니다.

Garvan Garden is a small arboretum compared to those we have visited in other parts of nation and is operated by University of Arkansas by bequest of the founder, Verna Garvan. It is almost entirely located in shady area which gives the "woodland" in the name.

The day we visited the garden was a hot day and the whole place was almost all to us. It was beautiful and tranquil place. The visit was well worth for the admission ($10/adult), time and effort.

수목원 입구에서 주차장 건너편에 예배당이 있는데 수목원을 걸어 다닌 후 피곤해 그냥 지나칠 유혹이 있겠지만 이 곳을 그냥 지나치면 가장 아름다운 곳들 중 하나를 놓치실 것입니다. 이 예배당의 벽은 유리로 되어 있어 주변 삼림 지역과 상호 조화가 잘 되어 있습니다. 듣자니 이 예배당은 결혼 장소로 소문나 있어 주말은 꽤 오래 전에 예약을 해야한다고 합니다.

There is a chapel at the other side of the parking lot and you may tempt to skip it after the long walk in the garden. But, if you skip it, you will be missing one of wonderful places. The walls of chapel are glass and it complements the surrounding woodlands. We heard that the chapel is very popular for the wedding and the weekend dates are booked way ahead.

Driving Cross Country (미국 대륙횡단) - Tennessee (테네시 여행)

테네시 주 여행 (Trip through Tennessee):

조지아 주 (Georgia)에 있는 록 시티 가든 (Rock City Garden)에 들린 후 다시 테네시 주 (Tennessee)로 들어 왔네요. 이번 여행 중에 두 번 들리는 주 중에 하나가 테네시 주 입니다.
We came back to Tennessee after visiting Rock City Garden in Georgia. Tennessee is one two states we will be driving through twice during this trip.

Jack Daniel Distillery (잭 데니엘 양조장):
Lynchburg, TN

양조장을 들리기 위해 아무 것도 없는 테네시 주 한 복판을 가야 할 것인지 양조장에 도착할 때 까지는 걱정을 했습니다. 그러나 양조장에 도착하니 그 모든 것은 기우 였습니다. 근데 신기한 것은 이 양조장이 금주령이 있는 군 (county)에 있는 미국에서 가장 먼저 등록된 양조장이란 것입니다. 저희들이 택한 공장 견학은 입장료가 없었지만 재미있고 유익한 시간 이었습니다. 10블을 내시면 위스키 한잔에 조금 더 공장을 둘러보는 시식 견학을 할 수 있습니다. 저희들이 생각했던 것보다 네번째 방문한다는 뱅문객을 포함해서 방문객 수가 많았고 안내원도 공장에 관한 상식이 풍부했습니다.

공장 작업실에서는 사진 촬영을 금지해 보여 줄 것이 없네요. 공장 견학이 끝나면 금주령이 있는 군이라 레몬 쥬스를 재공합니다. 그러나 추가 비용을 내고 원하는 글을 새겨 넣는 위스키는  구입할 수 있습니다.

We were worried that we may be wasting our time driving to the middle of nowhere in Tennessee to visit the distillery. However, that was something we did not have to be concerned. Strangely, it is the oldest registered distillery in the unites states in the dry county. The regular tour we took was free, but it was fun and educational. You may take the tasting tour for $10 for 1 oz of whisky with some extra to see. There were a lot more visitors including some return visitors than we expected and our tour guide was well informed.

The photo taking is not allowed inside the factory and they serve lemonade at the end of tour since it is in the dry county. But, you can purchase the encrypted bottle with extra fee.

입구 로비에는 양조장 역사와 양조 과정을 보여주는 전시물이 있습니다. The history of distillery and brewing process are displayed in the entrance lobby.

양조 과정에서 생기는 가스 떄문에 나무들에 까만 곰팡이가 생겨 나무 껍질이 전부 까맣게 변한다고 하네요.
Because of the gas generated during the brewing process, the bark of some of trees became black with black fungus.

어디에서나 물장사에는 물이 중요한가 봅니다. 양조장 물은 이 샘물에서 댄다고하네요. I guess the water is important for any kind of drink business. This spring provides water for the distillery.

아래는 미스터 잭이 사용하던 원래 사무실인데 사진 왼쪽에 있는 금고를 "죽음의 금고"라고도 부른다고 합니다. 어느날 아침 금고를 열지 못해 화가나 잭이 금고를 발로 차다 발가락을 부러트렸다고 합니다. 그리곤 상처가 곪아 그 이유로 죽었다고 합니다.
This is the original office used by Mr Jack and the safe on the left side is called "death safe". One morning, Jack could not open the safe and he kicked the safe and broke the toe. The wound was infected and that's how he lost his life.

케어리 존즈 마을은 기차 박물관을 제외하고는 옛 마을 같지가 않습니다. 건물 외양만 옛날 식으로 치장해 놓은 가게들입니다. 저희들은 기차 팬도 아니고 거의 7불의 입장료가 가치가 있는지도 모르겠고 하여 들리지 않았습니다. 그러나 이곳은 쉬워가기에 좋은 곳이고 잡화점에서 파는 아이스 크림은 부드러운 것이 맛있었습니다.
The village is nothing authentic except the railroad museum. The buildings are just common stores with old facade. We skipped the train museum (admission fee, $6.75) since we are not a train fan and we were not sure if it was worth it. However, the village is a good place to stretch your legs. The ice cream at the general store was creamy and tasteful.

멤피스에 있는 아시아나 가든에서 저녁을 먹고 아칸사스로 건너와 쉬고 가기로 했습니다. We stopped for dinner at Asiana Garden in Memphis before we checked in a motel in Arkansas.

멤피스 근처에 한국 식당이 많지가 않아 선택의 여지도 별로 없어 고속도로에서 쉽게 들릴 수 있는 이곳을 들렸는데 음식이 생각보다 좋았습니다.  서비스도 좋았구요. 저희들이 먹어 본 것은 돌솥 비빔밥 (11불)과  해물 순두부 (12불) 였습니다. 탕 종류는 14블 정도이고요.
There wasn't many Korean restaurants around the city and the choice was further limited along our route. We choose Asiana Garden since it was easy in and out from the highway. the food was tasty. The service was also good. We tried Dolsot Bibimbap ($11) and Haemul Silken Tofu ($12). Soup based dishes were around $14.

대체적으로 방은 깨끗한 편이고 화장실이 꽤나 큰 편이었는데 화장실 한 구석에서 죽은 벌레를 보았습니다. 냉장고와 전자레인지가 방에 있습니다. 식당에서 먹을 만한 아침이 제공됐고 맛도 괜찮았습니다.
The room was generally clean and bathroom was large, but we found a dead bug on the corner of bathroom floor. The room has the refrigerator and microwave. It provided hot breakfast and wasn't bad at all.
