크루즈 선박이 밴쿠버에서 출발 예정이라 이번 기회에 밴쿠버 지역을 관광할 예정입니다. 게다가 캐나다 항공사의 파업 사태 덕분에, 크루즈 여행을 마친 후에도 밴쿠버에서 며칠을 더 머물게 되었습니다.

Since the cruise ship is leaving from Vancouver, we used this occasion to spend additional time to tour Vancouver. Thanks to the strike at Canada airline, we ended up extra few days in Vancouver after the cruise.

밴쿠버 공항/Vancouver airport

밴쿠버 공항에서 입국 심사와 세관 절차를 마치는 데 예상보다 시간이 덜 걸렸습니다. 하지만 공항에서 시내까지 우버를 타고 가는 데 퇴근 시간도 아닌데 거의 50분이 걸렸습니다. 가방이 많지 않다면 목적지에 따라 기차를 타는 것이 더 빠를 수도 있습니다. 저희는 크루즈 여행 후 워터프런트 역 (항구 역)에서 공항까지 기차를 탔는데, 편리하고 빨랐습니다.

It took less time than expected to go through the immigration/customer at the Vancouver airport. But the ride to downtown from the airport by Uber took almost 50 minutes. It wasn’t even rush hour. If you don’t carry multiple begs, it may be faster to take the train depending on where you need to go. We took the train from the waterfront station after the cruise to the airport, and it was convenient and faster.

크루즈 체크인 전에 반납하기가 더 쉬울 것 같아서 시내 중심가에서 렌터카를 빌리기로 했습니다. 그런데 사무실이 고층 건물 안에 있고 외부 창문에 작은 간판 하나만 있어서 영업소 찾기가 쉽지 않았습니다. 직원 한 명이 여러 손님을 응대하고 있어서 좀 기다려야 했지만, 렌터카 대여 절차 자체는 문제없이 빨리 진행되었습니다. 차를 반납하려면 건물 옆 골목으로 들어가서 차고 입구 표지판을 찾으면 됩니다. 반납 장소는 지하 4층입니다.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car (4*)

We decided to rent a car from the downtown area since it would be easier to return it before we checked in for the cruise. It wasn’t easy to locate the office since it was inside an office building with only a small sign on the outside window..We had to wait since one poor staff member was serving a number of customers, but the actual rental process itself went without any problem. To return the car, you need to drive into the alley next to the building and watch for the garage entrance sign. The place to return the car is 4th floor underground.

차이나타운을 구경하다가 저녁 식사 예약 시간까지 시간이 남아서 잠시 쉬려고 이 식당에 들렀습니다. 식당은 화려하진 않았지만 높은 천장 등 편안한 분위기였습니다. 서비스도 아주 좋았습니다. 웨이터가 추천해 준 미트볼과 치즈 & 고기 모듬(CD$ 34)은 정말 훌륭했습니다. 다른 메뉴들은 어떨지 기대하며 나왔습니다.

참고로, 차이나타운 지역은 밤에는 돌아다니지 않는 것을 권장합니다. 낮에도 노숙자들이 거리에 많은 것이 안전하지 않다고 느꼈습니다.

Fiorino

After walking around Chinatown, we stopped here for a short rest since we still had the time to kill until our dinner reservation. The restaurant was not fancy, but it gave a relaxing feel.with a high ceiling. The service was very good. The meatball dish and cheese and meat board (CD$ 34) the server suggested were excellent. We left wondering how other dishes may taste.

Note that we don’t recommend venturing out the Chinatown area at night. We did not feel comfortable even in the afternoon with a lot of street people in the area.

프놈펜 레스토랑은 밴쿠버에서 매우 유명하고, 거의 명소나 다름없어서 꼭 한번 가보고 싶었습니다. 당일 예약은 가능했지만, 그래도 두 시간을 기다려야 했습니다.

리뷰어들이 가장 많이 추천한 메뉴인 닭 날개, 굴전, 양념 버터 소고기(생으로 제공), 그리고 룰락 덮밥 위에 얹은 소고기 안심을 주문했습니다. 음식은 빨리 나왔고, 전반적으로 다른 곳보다 더 정통적인 맛이었습니다. 전체적으로 음식은 괜찮았지만, 개별 메뉴는 다른 곳에서 더 맛있었던 기억이 있습니다.

Phnom Penh Restaurant is well known, more like an institution, in Vancouver and we had to try it. We were able to get the reservation on the same day, but it was still two hour wait.

We ordered the dishes recommended by most reviewers: chicken wings, oyster pancake, marinated butter beef (served raw), and filet beef Lulc lac on rice. The food was served quickly and in general the foods were more authentic than other places. The food was good overall, but we had better food of individual dish at other places.

밴쿠버 방문 기간 동안 빈 방이 있는지 문의하는 전화 메시지를 남겼는데, 얼마 지나지 않아 주인분께서 연락을 주셨습니다. 주인분께서는 각 방의 장단점을 친절하게 설명해 주셔서 숙소를 선택하는 데 큰 도움이 되었습니다. 도착해서 방들을 보니 주인분의 설명이 정확했습니다. 방들은 아름답게 꾸며져 있었고 침대도 편안했습니다. 도시를 구경하느라 아름다운 정원이나 서재를 제대로 즐길 시간은 없었지만, 집은 매우 조용했습니다.

Point Grey Guest House (4*)

We left a phone message asking if there were any vacancies during our visit to Vancouver, and the owner contacted us shortly after. The owner was very helpful in explaining the pros and cons of each room. It helped us make our choice. Upon arrival, we saw the rooms and found the owner's descriptions very accurate. The rooms were beautifully decorated, and the beds were comfortable. We were so busy exploring the city that we didn't have time to enjoy the beautiful garden or library, but the house was very quiet.

밴쿠버 데이비 스트리트 855번지

섀넌 폭포로 가는 길에 잠시 들렀습니다. 가게는 바빴지만 주문 대기줄은 금방 줄어들었고 직원분들도 매우 친절했습니다. 저희는 크레첼 햄 & 치즈 멜트(크루아상과 프레첼의 조합)(7.25달러), 초콜릿 아몬드 크루아상(6.00달러), 런던 포그 도넛(2.75달러), 버터 크루아상(3.50달러)을 주문했습니다. 샌드위치는 신선하고 맛있어서 하나 더 사쓸 걸 그랬나 싶었습니다. 빵 종류는 매일 직접 만들어 신선했지만, 도넛은 저희 입맛에는 조금 달았습니다.

Breka Bakery and Cafe

We stopped at the place on the way to Shannon Falls. The place was busy, but the order line moved quickly. The staff was very polite. We got Cretzel Ham & Cheese melt (a fusion of croissant and pretzel) (CD $ 7.25), Chocolate Almond Croissant (CD $ 6.00), London Fog Donut (CD $2.75) and Butter Croissant (CD $ 3.50). The sandwich was fresh and very good and we thought we should have one more. The pastries were made daily and fresh, but the donut was a bit sweeter for us than we would like.

곤돌라를 타고 산 위로 올라가면 하우 사운드와 주변 봉우리의 멋진 경치를 감상할 수 있고, 스카이 파일럿 현수교를 건널 수도 있습니다.

정상에서 우리가 처음 시도한 등산로는 400미터(1,312피트) 거리의 등산로였습니다.스피릿 트레일을 따라가면 스피릿 뷰잉 전망대에 도착합니다. 하우 사운드의 아름다운 경치를 감상하는 것 외에도 역사적 기록이 있기 전부터 이 지역에 살던 스쿠스우메쉬의 역사에 대해 더 깊이 알아볼 수 있습니다.

다음은 좀 더 긴 산책을 하기위해 1.8km (1.1마일) 길이의 파노라마 코스를 선택했어요. 이 코스는 숲을 지나고, 화강암 바위를 넘고, 사진을 찍기 좋은 전망대를 여러 곳 지나갑니다. 코스가 쉬워서 가족과 함께 즐기기에도 좋아요.

Take the gondola up into the mountains for incredible views of Howe Sound and the surrounding peaks and a walk across the Sky Pilot Suspension Bridge.

The first trail at the top we tried is the 400-meter (1,312-foot) Spirit Trail, which takes you to the Spirit Viewing Platform. As well as enjoying the beautiful views of the Howe Sound, you can also dive deeper into the history of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Nation (Squamish Nation), who have lived in this area since before records began.

For a longer walk, we did the 1.8 kilometers (1.1 miles) long Panorama which takes you through the forest, over granite outcroppings, and past lots of viewpoints to stop and grab a picture. The trail is easy and family-friendly.

Copper Coil Still & Gril

We visited Copper Coil because of its good reviews. It was a lively place, but there were no issues with staff. We ordered different dishes to try and the price was reasonable for the tourist place. But, the food was not as good as the reviews by others.

섀넌 폭포

영업시간: 오전 7시 ~ 오후 10시

위치: 이 공원은 99번 고속도로(시 투 스카이 고속도로) 바로 옆에 위치해 있습니다.

폭포까지 곤돌라 승강장에서 숲 속 오솔길을 따라 약 0.5km 정도 걸어가면 됩니다. 또는 섀넌 폭포 입구에 있는 작은 주차장까지 차를 몰고 가세요.

이 폭포는 1890년부터 1900년까지 폭포와 주변 지역을 소유하고 점토 매장지를 이용해 벽돌을 만들었던 섀넌의 이름을 따서 명명되었습니다. 섀넌 크릭을 따라 서부 솔송나무, 더글러스 전나무, 서부 적삼나무 숲을 지나는 350미터 길이의 쉬운 산책로가 있으며, 이 길을 따라가면 전망대에 도착합니다. 전망대에서는 웅장한 폭포의 장관을 감상할 수 있습니다. 섀넌 폭포는 99번 고속도로 위로 335미터 높이로 솟아 있는 일련의 절벽으로 이루어져 있으며, 주에서 세 번째로 높은 폭포입니다. 폭포의 규모를 제대로 느끼려면 두 개의 전망대로 이어지는 산책로를 꼭 따라가 보세요. 섀넌 폭포의 물줄기는 하브리치 산과 스카이 파일럿 산에서 발원합니다.

Shannon Falls

Hours: 7 AM – 10 PM

Location: The park is located just off of Highway 99 (the Sea to Sky Highway)

From the gondola base, either follow a trail for about 0.5 km through the forest to Shannon Falls or drive to the small parking lot in fall entrance.

The falls were named after Shannon who in 1890-1900 owned the falls and surrounding area and used the clay deposits to make bricks. There is an easy 350 metre long walking trail through a forest of Western hemlock, Douglas fir and Western red cedar along Shannon Creek which leads to the viewpoint. This viewpoint affords a spectacular view of the roaring falls. Shannon Falls is composed of a series of cliffs, rising 335 metres above Highways 99, making it the third highest falls in the province. Be sure to follow the trails to both viewing platforms to really appreciate its size. The tumbling waters of Shannon Falls originate from Mount Habrich and Mount Sky Pilot.

Lynn Canyon Park

Direction: Take highway 1 to the Lynn Valley Road (#19) exit. Continue along Lynn Canyon Road and go past Lynn Valley Mall. Turn right at Peter’s Road (a sign for park)

X̱á7elcha is the Squamish name for Lynn Creek. It is one of the places used for kw’ayatsut – a place to purify yourself. The Tsleil-Waututh people called the Lynn Creek area Kwa-hul-cha, referring to a settlement in the area. When settlers moved to North Vancouver, they began to log the old growth forests as part of Vancouver’s growing logging industry. After Lynn Canyon’s forests were logged, the McTavish Brothers donated a 5 hectare piece of land around the newly constructed Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge in the hopes that a park would attract people to the real estate development. In 1991, the District of North Vancouver added another 241 hectares to the park, making it one of the largest and most popular parks in Metro Vancouver.

The Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge

The Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge hangs 50 meters above Lynn Creek, the height of a 15 story building. Originally, people crossed the creek on a log over the canyon. When the park opened in 1912, the hope was that the Suspension Bridge would become a tourist attraction. Visitors paid 10 cents to cross the bridge. Today, it's free to cross the bridge, making it one of the few attractions to have gone down in price since 1912!

Many visitors opt to go to Lynn Canyon Park rather than pay the exorbitant fee for the Capilano Suspension Bridge.

30피트 풀 트레일

현수교 북쪽에서 왼쪽으로 난 길을 따라 조금만 걸으면 인기 있는 30피트 웅덩이에 도착합니다. 이곳은 좁은 협곡에서 넓은 개울로 물이 흘러나오는 곳으로, 강물이 아름다운 초록빛 물웅덩이를 만들어 놓았습니다. 피크닉을 즐기기에 좋은 장소가 많고, 멋진 수영을 할 수 있는 곳이기도 합니다.

30 Foot Pool Trail

On the north side of the suspension bridge, the trail to the left leads to the popular 30-Foot pool after a short walk. This is the place where water moves out of the narrow canyon into a broader creek bed, and the river has created a beautiful green pool of water. It is a very large area with great spots for a picnic and it features a beautiful swimming hole.

The Seawall Water Walk

The Seawall Water Walk near Canada Place in Vancouver is part of the world's longest uninterrupted waterfront path, stretching 28 km along the city's shoreline. Located near the Vancouver Convention Centre and Coal Harbour, this scenic, paved, and flat path offers stunning views of the city skyline, mountains, and ocean.

고마가타 마루 기념관(콜 하버/하버 그린 공원)

콜 하버 방파제를 따라 위치한 이 기념비는 1914년 인도에서 온 승객 376명이 입국이 거부되어 강제로 인도로 돌아가야 했던 사건을 기리는 것입니다. 선박의 뱃머리를 본뜬 스테인리스 스틸 패널로 구성되어 있으며, 승객들의 이름이 새겨져 있습니다.

Komagata Maru Memorial (Coal Harbour/Harbour Green Park)

Located along the Coal Harbour Seawall, this monument commemorates the 1914 incident where 376 passengers from India were denied entry and forced to return to India. It features stainless steel panels designed to look like a ship's bow and includes the names of the passengers.

사람이 너무 많아서 분위기를 제대로 즐기기는 어려웠지만, 직원들은 친절하고 효율적이었습니다. 저희는 참치 테마키(13.75불), 크랩 딥(18불), TK 연어 케일 샐러드(27.5불), 바하 피시 타코(21불), 간장 디종 연어(34.25불), 스파게티 포르토피노(28.25불), 아페롤 스프리츠(14.75불), 그리고 GL 코파레파레(16불)를 주문했습니다. 음식 양이 적어서 결국 여러 가지를 시키게 되었어요 (즉, 가격이 비쌌다는 뜻이죠).

Cactus Club

The place was too crowded to enjoy the atmosphere, but the staff was efficient and friendly. We enjoyed Tuna Temaki (CD $13.75), Crab dip (CD $18), TK Salmon Kale Salad (CD $27.5), Baja Fish Tacos (CD $21), Soy Dijon Salmon (CD $34.25), Spaghetti Portofino (CD $28.25), Aperol Spritz (CD $14.75), and GL Koparepare sb (CD $16). The dishes were small proportions and we ended up ordering many dishes (aka expensive).

5일차 알래스카 주노 오전 7시 30분 ~ 오후 7시 (4*)

주노는 도로 접근이 불가능하여 미국에서 비행기나 배로만 갈 수 있는 유일한 주도이며, 금광 시대에 뿌리내린 풍부한 역사를 자랑합니다. 주노는 웅장한 산맥 기슭에 자리 잡고 있으며, 주노로 향하는 길은 장관을 이루었습니다.

다양한 가격대의 여러 관광 상품이 있었는데, 우리는 이 지역에서만 경험할 수 있는 특별한 투어를 선택하고 싶었습니다. 그래서 헬리콥터 투어가 포함된 개썰매를 골랐습니다.

이 투어에서는 헬리콥터를 타고 덴버 빙하 위를 비행한 후, 그곳에 착륙하여 썰매견 캠프를 방문했습니다. 캠프 주변에서 썰매를 타고 기본적인 썰매 조종법을 배우고 썰매견들과 함께 시간을 보냈습니다. 빙하 정상에서 바라본 경치는 잊을 수 없는 경험이었습니다. 가격은 다소 비쌌지만 그만한 가치가 충분했습니다. 다만, 투어 시간이 조금 더 길었으면 하는 아쉬움이 남았습니다. 투어 회사에서 투어 전후로 충분한 시간을 마련해 주어 서두르지 않고 여유롭게 투어를 시작하고 배로 돌아갈 수 있었습니다.

투어 후에는 도시를 천천히 산책하며 점심을 먹고 관광 명소와 상점들을 둘러보았습니다. 주노에서는 취향과 원하는 바에 따라 매우 즐거운 하루를 보낼 수 있습니다.

Tracy's King Crab Shack (3*)

As the place is well known to the tourists, the ordering line was long. But, the ordering process was easy enough and the food came out in a timely fashion. The food was expensive, but we were on vacation to try new things. We got the Combo Red King ($98), Dungeness Crab ($35/lb), and Nachos with snow crab ($16.95). The crabs were full of meats and the food was no better than expected. It allowed us to cross one of bucket list.

Day 5 Juneau, Alaska 7:30 AM 7:00 PM (4*)

With no road access to Juneau, it is the only state capital in the United States that can only be reached by airplane or boat and boasts a rich history rooted in the town’s gold-mining days. Juneau is nestled at the base of towering mountains and the approach to Juneau provided a spectacular view.

There were number of excursion options available with wide price range. We tried to choose an excursion unique to the area. We picked the the dog sledding with helicopter ride.

On this tour you flew over the Denver Glacier by helicopter, then landed there to visit a dog camp. we took a ride on the sled around the camp, learned the basics and played with sled dogs. The experience with the view from the top of glacier was an unforgettable experience. It was surely expensive, but it was well worth it. But, I wished it lasted a little longer. The time the tour company arranged gave us enough time before and after the excursion such that we didn't have to rush to start the excursion and return to the ship.

After the excursion, we took leisurely stroll around the city, having a lunch and visiting the attractions and shops. You could have a very exciting day in Juneau depending on your preference or desires.

6일차: 케치칸 오후 2시 ~ 오후 8시 30분 (3*)

배가 마을에 가까워질수록 발코니에서 바라본 케치칸은 그림처럼 아름다운 마을이었다. 마치 엽서 속 한 장면 같았다.

케치칸에서는 다양한 관광 프로그램을 즐길 수 있었지만, 배가 6시간밖에 정박하지 않았기 때문에 활동 선택에 신중해야 했습니다. 게다가 저희가 방문한 날은 비가 오고 버스 운행도 중단되어 토템 폴 주립공원 방문을 포기해야 했습니다. 같은 시기에 여러 척의 크루즈선이 정박해 있어 마을이 매우 혼잡했고, 할 수 있는 활동도 많지 않았습니다.

'천둥치는 날개' 독수리 조각상은 세계적으로 유명한 틀링깃족 명장 조각가인 케치칸 출신의 네이선 잭슨이 조각했습니다.

Thundering Wings eagle was carved by world-renowned Tlingit master carver Nathan Jackson of Ketchikan.

55피트 높이의 이 기념비는 1901년에 존슨 추장의 어머니를 기리기 위해 세워졌습니다.

Day 6 Ketchikan 2:00 PM - 8:30 PM (3*)

Ketchikan we saw from the balcony was a picturesque town as the ship pulled closer to the town. It was a postcard moment.

Ketchikan offered a lot of options for excursion, but you need to be careful choosing the activities since the ship only docked for 6 hours. Furthermore, on the day we visited Ketchikan, it was raining and the bus wasn't running. We had to give up the trip to Totem Pole State Park. With number of cruise ship were in port at the same time, the town was very crowded and there weren't many options available for us to do.

크릭 스트리트/Creek Street

저희는 흥미로운 상점과 박물관이 즐비한 크릭 스트리트 산책로를 거닐었습니다. 이곳은 과거 금광 시대에는 홍등가였던 곳이지만, 케치칸을 처음 방문하는 사람이라면 꼭 가봐야 할 곳입니다. 아쉽게도 우리가 방문했을 때는 연어 떼가 올라오는 모습은 볼 수 없었지만, 몇몇 연어들이 물살을 거슬러 언덕을 오르는 모습은 목격했습니다.

We strolled Creek Street boardwalk filled with interesting shops and museums. It was originally a Red Light District back in the Gold Rsh days. But, it should be on your "must to do" list if it is your first trip. Unfortunately there was no salmon run when we visited, but we saw few salmons fighting uphill against the current.

7일차, 인사이드 패시지 (크루즈 여행)

오늘은 크루즈가 제공하는 다양한 경험을 만끽할 수 있는 또 다른 온종일 "바다 위" 여행입니다. 오늘은 바람이 강해서 퀸 샬럿 해협을 지날 때 배가 심하게 흔들렸습니다. 다행히 멀미약을 복용하고 큰 문제 없이 통과할 수 있었습니다. 하선때 짐을 직접 옮기고 싶지 않다면, 크루즈 회사에서는 밤 10시까지 객실 문 밖에 짐을 내놓으라고 안내했습니다. 그러면 체크인했던 곳에서 짐을 찾을 수 있었습니다.

Day 7 Inside Passage (Cruising)

Today is another full day "at sea" day to explore what the cruise may offer. The wind today is strong and we could feel the rocking of the ship when we passed Queen Charlotte Sound. We took the medication and were able to come through without any "accident". Unless you wanted to carry the luggages yourself, the cruise line suggested to put the luggages outside of the room door by 10 PM. We then able to pick them up at the place where we went through the "check-in".

8일차 오전 6시 밴쿠버 도착

크루즈 회사에서 오전 8시 30분 출발 시간을 정해줘서 뷔페에서 일찍 아침을 먹었어요. 크루즈는 예상보다 좋았고, 생각했던 것만큼 "바다 위" 시간도 지루하지 않았어요. 쇼도 보고, 쇼핑도 하고, 휴식도 취했죠. 하지만 다시 크루즈 여행을 할지는 잘 모르겠어요.

Day 8 Arrival at Vancouver at 6 AM

Since we were assigned the 8:30 AM departure time by the cruise line, we had an early breakfast at the buffet. The cruise was better than what we expected and "at sea" day wasn't boring as we were concerned. We watched the shows, did some window shopping and relaxing. However, we are not sure if we would do it again soon.

객실 선택: 이번 여행에서는 친구들의 추천으로 발코니 객실을 예약했는데, 알래스카에서는 정말 탁월한 선택이었어요. 발코니에서 오붓하게 아침 식사를 즐기거나 PJ 창밖으로 펼쳐지는 풍경을 감상할 수 있었거든요. 재방문객 중에는 가격이 훨씬 저렴한 내측 객실을 선택하는 분들도 많았는데, 그분들은 언제 어디서 풍경을 감상해야 하는지 잘 알고 계셨던 것 같아요.

음료 패키지: 뷔페에서 커피와 차가 무료로 제공되지만, 음료 패키지를 구매할지 말지는 정말 고민스러운 결정이었습니다. 저희는 음료를 즐겨 마시는 편은 아니지만, 생수는 많이 마십니다. 결국 가장 저렴한 음료 패키지를 구매했는데, 과연 그만한 가치가 있었는지 아직도 확신이 서지 않습니다.

Things to consider:

There are few upgrade options, but it depends on you preference and budget.

Food: Check if the main dining room, not specialty restaurant, beside buffet is included. If not, it was worth to upgrade since the food at buffet wasn't bad, but it could use a little improvement. Dining Room (4*) and buffet (3*)

Wi-Fi: It was our first cruise experience and decided to go without the wi-fi.

Cabin selection: We reserved the room with balcony for this trip since many friends recommended and it was worth it for Alaska. You may enjoy the breakfast in private or watch the scenery in PJ. Many returning travelers chose the inside cabin which is way cheaper and they knew where and when to enjoy the passing scenery.

Drink package: This was a difficult decision even tough coffee and tea are available free at the buffet. We are not drinkers of beverages or other drinks, but we drink a lot of bottled water. We did purchase the cheapest drink package, but we are still not sure if it was worth it.

저희가 직접 예약한 대부분의 투어는 선박의 도착 및 출발 시간에 맞춰 특정 시간대로 예약할 수 있었습니다. 또한 날씨 변화나 기타 사유로 취소하기가 더 쉬울 수 있고, 상당한 할인을 받을 수도 있습니다. 하지만 예상치 못한 문제에 대비하여 예비 계획을 세워두는 것이 좋습니다. 각 항구의 투어 회사에 문의해 보세요. 크루즈 회사가 예약한 투어가 아닌 이상, 배는 여러분을 기다려주지 않는다는 점을 명심하십시오.

Arranging the Excursions

You probably heard the news that the passengers left behind at the port because they were late coming back from their excursion. If you booked the excursion through the ship, the ship will not leave if one of their excursions is late coming back. However, if you booked yourself, they don't wait and the ship sails on time. You have to catch up with the ship at the next port on your own expenses. If this is the concern, book through the ship. And it is more expensive, but convenient.

The most excursion we arranged ourselves were available with the specific times reserved for the ship's arrival and departure time. It also may be easier to cancel because of changing weather or other reasons and you may be able to book with significant savings. However, you should have a backup plan in case of unseen problems. You should check with the tour companies at each port. Remember the ship will not wait for you unless the excursion was arranged by the cruise line.

지금까지 크루즈 여행을 미뤄왔던 유일한 이유는 뱃멀미 때문이었어요. 저는 뱃멀미를 너무 심하게 해서 여행 내내 괴로워하고 싶지 않았거든요. 하지만 친구의 권유로 버킷리스트 하나를 달성해보고 싶어서 한번 도전해보기로 했습니다.

알래스카 크루즈에 대한 대부분의 후기에 의하면 밴쿠버에서 출항하는 배는 브리티시 컬럼비아와 밴쿠버 섬 사이의 내륙 항로를 이용하기 때문에 출발 도시로 밴쿠버를 선택하는 것이 좋다고 추천했습니다. 시애틀에서 출발하는 선박은 미국 해상법에 따라 알래스카 해안으로 돌아오기 전에 태평양을 항해해야 한다고 합니다.

The only reason I avoided the cruise trip until now was the seasick. I am too prone to the seasick and did not want to spend the miserable time for the whole trip. But I decide to take a chance just for the sake of bucket list with the friend's encouragement.

Most reviews on Alaska Cruise suggested to choose Vancouver as departing city because of cruising inside passage between the British Columbia mainland and the Vancouver Island. The ships departing from Seattle has to sail to the Pacific Ocean before it navigates back to the shoreline of Alaska because of US marine law.

1일차: 밴쿠버 출발 (Sailing from Vancouver)

승선은 오후 1시로 예정되어 있었고 체크인 줄이 길었지만 생각보다 빨리 줄어들었습니다. 체크인 할 때 받은 크루즈 카드를 이용해 곧바로 베란다 객실로 안내받았습니다. 객실 크기는 예상했던 대로였지만, 발코니는 예상보다 훨씬 넓고 지붕으로 완전히 덮여 있었습니다. 또한 객실에는 생각보다 수납공간이 많았고 가방들은 침대 밑에 보관할 수 있었습니다. 친구가 마련해준 강력한 자석 고리 덕분에 벽에도 물건들을 걸어 정리할 수 있었습니다. 짐을 풀고 나서는 비상 상황 발생 시 보고해야 하는 안전 스테이션에 가서 체크인한 후 배 곳곳을 둘러보며 각 층을 구경했습니다.

늦은 오후에 밴쿠버 항구를 떠난 배에서 보는 경치와 석양은 정말 아름다웠습니다. 많은 승객들이 배 앞쪽으로 모여들어 경치를 감상했습니다. 식사는 경험 많은 크루즈 여행객들의 조언을 받아 식사 패키지를 구매했는데, 뷔페를 포함한 여러 식당을 이용할 수 있었습니다. 음식은 대체적으로 괜찮았고 직원들은 친절하고 전문적이었습니다. 저녁 식사 후에는 갑판에서 커피와 케이크를 즐기며 여유로운 시간을 보냈습니다.

다른 크르즈 배도 같은 방향으로 가네요. 아마 다음 항구에서 보겠지요.

Day 1 Sailing from Vancouver

Boarding was scheduled for 1:00 PM and the check-in line was long, but it moved fast. With the cruise card we received at the check-in, it wasn't long before we were in our veranda stateroom. The room was the size I expected, but the balcony was bigger than I expected and fully covered. Also the room has more storage spaces than I expected and the luggages could be stored under the bed. The (strong) magnetic hooks the friends got for us also helped us to organize by hanging things on the wall. After we settled in, we checked in at the safety station where we're suppose to report to in case of emergency and ventured around the ship to check out each level.

The ship sailed late afternoon and the sunset was beautiful as the ship left the Vancouver port. It attracted lots of passengers to the bow. With advise from seasoned cruisers, we purchased a dining package. It allowed the access to some of the dining rooms including the buffet. The food was excellent and staffs were professional. After the dinner, we enjoyed the rest of evening with coffee and cake on the deck.

2일차 크루즈 여행 (Cruising)

오늘은 온종일 "바다 위"에서 보내는 날이라 뷔페에서 여유로운 아침 식사를 즐겼습니다. 이 기회를 이용해 배를 둘러보고, 발코니에서 오후 커피를 마시며 휴식을 취하고, 저녁 식사를 즐겼습니다. "여행" 중 이렇게 여유로운 하루를 보낸 적은 처음입니다.

Day 2 Cruising

Today is the full day "at sea" day and we enjoyed the leisurely breakfast at the buffet. We took this opportunity to explore the ship part of the day, relax with afternoon coffee in the balcony and enjoy the dinner. We never had this relaxed day while we "travel".

3일차: 아이시 스트레이트 포인트 오후 1시 30분 - 오후 9시 (1*)

아이시 스트레이트 포인트는 알래스카 후나에 위치한 유일한 개인 소유 크루즈 기항지입니다. 1996년 알래스카 원주민 후나 토템 코퍼레이션에 의해 설립되었으며, 이곳에서 소비되는 모든 금액은 알래스카 최대의 틀링깃 원주민 마을인 후나 지역 사회를 직접적으로 지원합니다.

부두 주변을 산책하며 사진 몇 장을 찍은 후, 아이시 스트레이트 포인트에서 후나로 가는 셔틀을 탔습니다. 기념품 가게 옆 정류장까지는 금방이었지만, 돌아오는 길은 꽤 오래 기다려야 했습니다. 현지 틀링깃족 조각가들이 토템 기둥을 만드는 모습을 보고 싶었지만, 모든 가게가 문을 닫았더군요. 마을에는 몇몇 가게만 열려 있어서, 이 항구에서 출발하는 투어를 예약하지 않았다면 시간 낭비였을 겁니다.

후나 관광 후 시간이 많이 남아서 크랩 하우스에 들렸습니다. 던지 크랩 한 덩어리(CD$ 28.75)를 주문했는데, 아쉽게도 게가 신선하지도 않고 거의 상한 상태였습니다.

Sine we had a lotof time left after the tour of Hoonah, we tried the Crab House. We got Dungi Crab one cluster (CD$ 28.75). Unfortunately, the crab wasn't not only fresh but almost spoiled.

Day 3 Icy Strait Point 1:30 PM - 9:00 PM (1*)

Icy Strait Point is the only cruise destination privately owned and located in Hoonah, Alaska. It was established in 1996 by the Alaskan Native Huna Totem Corporation. Every dollar spent here directly supports the community of Hoonah, Alaska’s largest Native Tlingit village

After we walked around the dock and took few pictures, we took the Shuttle from Icy Strait Point to Hoonah. It was a quick trip to the stop next to gift shop, but it was a long wait for the return trip. We hoped to see the local Tlingit carvers who create totem poles, but all of the shops were closed. There were only few shops open in the town and it was basically waist our time unless you have booked the excursion from this port.

4일차 허버드 빙하 (크루즈) 오전 9시 30분 - 오후 2시 30분 (평점 4*)

직원의 추천대로 전날 밤 룸서비스를 주문했습니다. 아침 식사는 요청한 시간에 맞춰 객실로 가져다주었습니다. 배가 만으로 들어오는 아름다운 풍경을 감상하며 개인 발코니에서 아침 식사를 즐겼습니다. 발코니가 있어서 객실에서 편안하게 항해를 즐길 수 있었던 것이 정말 좋았습니다. 더 넓은 만의 경치를 보기 위해 메인 데크에도 올라갔습니다.

내셔널 지오그래픽 협회의 설립자이자 회장이었던 가디너 허버드의 이름을 딴 허버드 빙하는 세계에서 가장 긴 해안 빙하입니다. 폭이 약 11km에 달하고 수면 위로는 30층 건물 높이에 이르는 이 거대한 빙하는 북미에서 가장 큰 얼음 강입니다. 길버트 포인트와 빙하 전면 사이를 흐르는 강한 해류와 역조로 인해 매일 빙하가 떨어져 나가며, 거대한 얼음 덩어리들이 디센챈트먼트 만으로 쏟아져 들어옵니다.

저는 처음에는 5시간 동안 한 곳에 가만히 있는 것이 좀 걱정스러웠습니다. 하지만 선장님이 배를 돌려 빙하를 다양한 각도에서 볼 수 있도록 해주셨습니다. 자연의 경이로움을 목격하는 것은 그만한 가치가 있었습니다.

Day 4 Hubbard Glacier (Cruising) 9:30 AM 2:30 PM (4*)

As a staff suggested, we ordered the room service the night before. The breakfast was brought to our room at our requested time. We enjoyed the breakfast in the private balcony while enjoying the beautiful scenery as the ship sailed into the bay. This was one time we really appreciated having the balcony and enjoy the sailing in the comfort of our room. We also went up to the main deck for the wider view of the bay.

Named after Gardiner Hubbard, the founder and president of the National Geographic Society, Hubbard Glacier is the longest tidewater glacier in the world. Dramatically massive at about 7-miles wide and as tall as a 30-story building above the waterline, it’s the largest river of ice in North America. The strong currents and riptides that flow between Gilbert Point and the face of the glacier cause calving to occur on daily basis, sending massive chunks of ice crashing into Disenchantment Bay.

I was initially skeptical about being stationary at one place for 5 hours. But the captain turned the ship around such that you may view the glacier in different angles on the ship. And witnessing the work of the nature was well worth it.
