일 마일 반경 안에 또 하나의 중국 부폐가 생긴 것에 의아했지만 이 곳 스시가 다른 부페 집 스시와 다르다는 평을 보고 들려보았으나 생각보다 못했지만 한번 더 들려 보았습니다. 금요일과 일요일에 들렸습니다.

다른 부페와 틀린 것은 8 가지의 국(soup) 종류가 있다는 것입니다. 동양식 서양식의 국들이 있지만 맛은 별로 였습니다. 국으로 배를 채우기가 싫어 다 먹어 보지는 않지만... 부페 음식 종류는 다른 곳에 비해 적은 편이지만 식당 이름이 말하듯 해산물 종류가 조금 더 많았습니다. 그렇지만 게가 없는 것이 좀 신기했지만. 처음 간 날은 소금에 절인 오징어가 싱싱하고 바삭바삭 한 것이 맛 있었는데 두번 째는 해 놓은지가 오래 되었는지 싱싱한 맛이 없었습니다. 연어와 틸라피아 접시는 좀 마른(dry) 편이었고요.

스시는 다른 평에 있던 그런 스페설 스시가 없어 실망했지만 재료가 다른 곳에 비해 싱싱한 편이었습니다. 그리고 맛도 별로 특별한 것이 없었고요. 이집이 다른 부페와 다른 것은 월남 국수 (Pho) 가 있다는 것입니다. 다른 식당의 월남 국수 값을 생각하면 월남 국수 하나로 본전 뽑지 않나 생각합니다. 또한 원하는대로 만들어 먹을 수가 있으니까요.

식당 장식은 특별한 것은 없으나 입구를 중국식 파고다 식으로 징식한 것이 눈에 뛰고 주차장은 넓어 주차에 문제가 없습니다. 서비스는 음료수는 필요 할 때 제때 채워주고 먹은 접시도 빨리 치웠습니다.

It was a little strange to see another Chinese buffet opening where there are two other buffets in a mile radius. But we decided to try it since a review indicated that they have special sushi available.  We visited Ocean Buffet for Thursday dinner and Sunday lunch.

The unusual difference of Ocean Buffet is the availability of 8 different soups. They have both oriental and usual American soups, but they tasted like out of the can even though I did not try all of them since I don't want to be full with soups. Number of dishes are less than other buffets, but they have more sea foods as the name sake. But, it was strange that they do not serve the crabs. On our first visit, the salt pepper squad was fresh and crispy, but it was not fresh on out second visit. Salmon and Tilapia even with the source were dry

It was disappointing that we did not find the special sushi as mentioned in another review, but the ingredients were fresh and the taste was a little better than other buffets with sushi bar. The major difference of Ocean Buffet is the availability of Pho. If you consider how much you pay for the Pho at other restaurants, it may just worth for the money. On top of that, you can make it the way you like it.

The interior is nothing special, more like bare, but the pagoda style entrance is unique. The parking is no problem and the service was prompt.

이번 여름에 우연히 이웃이 아노카에서 샌드위치 가게를 하는 것을 알고 꼭 들려 맛을 보고 제 의견을 알려 주기로 하였다가 이번에 들릴 기회가 있었습니다.

우리가 들린 날은 돼지고기가 다 팔려 소고기 샌드위치와 햄 샌드위치를 시식할 수 있었습니다. 소고기와 햄은 질은 좋은 고기였으나 햄은 저희들 입에 좀 짠 편이었습니다. 소고기는 고기 자체는 맛이 있었으나 너무 물기가 많았습니다. 고기를 구울 때의 즙이 물에 희석된 듯 한 맛이었습니다. 샌드위치에 넣는 양념들은 특별한 것은 없었지만 맛이 없다는 생각은 들지 않았습니다.

식당은 샌드위치 가게인가 할 정도로 깨끗하지만 장식은 매우 간단한 편입니다. 파킹은 식당 앞에 있으며 충분할 것 같읍니다.

I did not know that my neighbor owns a sandwich shop until this summer. I promised him I will taste the sandwiches and give him a feedback.

On the day we visited, they sold out the pork and we tried beef sandwich and ham sandwich. Both beef and ham were high quality, but ham was salty for my taste. Beef sandwich was better, but the meat was too watery and I think it was less flavorful because of it. Condiments were not special, but good enough.

The restaurant was surprisingly clean for any sandwich shop, but the deco was sparse. I don't think the parking will be a problem unless it is very very busy.

Minnesota Restaurant (미네소타 맛집) - French Meadow Bakery & Cafe (American)

2주 동안 사업 관계로 린데일 (Lyndale) 거리를 아침마다 지나다니면서 이 식당이 매일 분주한 것을 보아왔습니다. 그러나 식당 이름이 불란서 식당이고 저는 별로 불란서 음식을 좋아하는 편이 아니라 들려 볼 생각은 없었습니다. 그러나 같이 일하시는 분들이 맛 있는 집이라고 권하여 들려 보았습니다.

나중에 안 일이지만 이 식당이 자연 식품으로 꽤 알려져 있드군요. 처음 주문 한 것은 Le Trois 라는 살라드 접시와 맹고 닭 샌드위치 였습니다. 살라드는 닭고기, 겨란 그리고 투나 살라드를 바게트란 불란서 빵과 함께 나오고 샌드위치는 닭고기와 맹고 처트니(약간 달콤한 소스)와 함께 나옵니다.맛은 꽤 괜찮은 편이고 값도 ($10불 정도)자연음식 식당으로 비싼 편은 아니다고 생각합니다. 이 식당의 아침 메뉴가 더 유명하다하여 친구들을 꼬여 보냈는데 반응이 별로 시원치 않았습니다. Cajun Hashbrown 은 맛 있었는데 Egg & bacon 크로상과 Egg & smoked salmon 은 별로 였다고하네요.

식당 내부는 별로 특이한 것은 없고 식탁 배열이 꽤 어수선한 감을줍니다 (식당도 꽤 바쁘기도 하지만). 날씨가 좋으면 거리에 있는 식탁에서 즐길 수도 있습니다만. 주문은 종이 메뉴도 있지만 카운터 뒤 벽에 걸려 있는 큰 칠판에 메뉴가 있습니다. 처음 오신 분들은 아마 공부 좀 하셔여 할 것입니다. 식당 옆에 파킹장이 있지만 별로 크지가 않아 바쁠 때는 길거리에 차를 세우셔야 할 것 입니다. 근데 그것이 아마 쉽지가 않을 수도 있습니다.

I was traveling Lyndale avenue for two weeks for the business and noticed this restaurant seemingly to be busy every morning. But I did not have any desire to try it since I am not a real fan of French food. But my associates convinced me to try it.

I found out late that this place is well known for the organic food. We have ordered Le Trois salad (free-range chicken salad, egg salad and chive tuna salad with baguette slices) and Mango Chicken sandwich with mango chutney. The food is good and the price (~$10) is reasonable for the organic. Since some of friends were in the neighborhoods over the holiday, I asked them to try the breakfast. Their reaction wasn't that good. Cajun Hashbrown got good review, but Egg & bacon croissant and Egg & smoked salmon did not satisfy their appetite.
 
The interior is nothing special and the table set up gives out the busy feeling (the place is actually busy). If weather is good, you may try the outside table on the street. While the paper menu is available, but there is a large black board with menu behind the order counter. If this is your first visit, give yourself some time to study the menu. There are parking lots next to the restaurant, but the spaces are limited.  Since I have not been there during the meal time, I don't know the availability of the street parking.

Lawn Care 2 - fertilizer (잔디 관리 2 - 잔디 비료)

원예 솜씨는 없는 정도가 아니라 아예 없는 제가 잔디 비료 사용 경험을  적어 봅니다. 혹시 도움이 될까해서... 우리 집 잔디밭은 민들레를 비롯한 잡초의 천국이라 이런 실험을 하기에 아주 적합한 곳이라 생각합니다. 민들레를 가지고 요리도 한데는데 저에게는 제 이의 적입니다.

전에는 동네에 있는 원예원에서 파는 비료를 사용하여 재미를 보았는데 동네 원예원이 문을 닫고 처음 사용한 비료는 Scotts 회사의 Turf Builder with Plus 2입니다. 아직 결론을 내리기는 이르다고 생각합니다. 비료를 뿌리고 2주가 지났으나 민들레는 잔디 밭에서 춤을 추고 있으니 말이지요. 그리고나서 민들레가 줄어 들었지만 그것이 비료 때문인지 아니면 자연 현상인지는 두고 보아야겠지요.

여름이 되고 보니 Turf Builder 가 도움이 되었는지 모르겠습니다. 아직 잡초는 여전하고... 가을에 비료 뿌리고 결과 알려드릴께요.

업데이트 - 지난 가을에 Scott 회사의 Turf Builder Winter Guard 를 사용하였습니다. 이번 봄에 보니 별로 뭐가 크게 다른 것은 눈에 뛰지 않았습니다. 이것이 지난 겨울 눈이 안와서 그런 것인지 아니면 다른 분들 말처럼 몆 년은 해야 효과를 보는 것일지 모르겠습니다. 하여튼 올해는 다른 회사 것을 사용해 볼 예정입니다.

I am not a green thumb, not even close, but I will be recording my experiments with different fertilizers. I hope it helps somebody...  My lawn is the heaven for the weeds including dandelion which makes it a good test bed for this experiment. Some people even make the dishes with the dandelion, but the yellow bed of dandelion is my enemy number two.

I have used a private brand from the nursery in the neighborhood previously and had a good results. But, since the nursery went out of business, the first try of other fertilizer is Turf Builder with plus 2 from Scotts. I am not sure of the results. For a couple weeks after the application, the dandelions still covered the lawn even though it got better. It could be have been just by nature, not the fertilizer. I think the verdict is still to come.

Summer has come and the lawn is still covered with weed. I plan to use the fall fertilizer from Scott and report the results next spring.

Update - I have used Winter Guard from Scott in the fall and I did not notice any thing significant change this spring. Maybe it is because of lack of snow last winter or it may take few years of try to see any changes. I plan to use the fertilizer from another company.

Leaking Kitchen Sink (부엌 싱크대 물새는 문제)

어느날 부터 어디서인지 물이 한 방울 한 방울 씩 떨어져 싱크대 밑을 적시드니 점점 심해지기 시작했습니다. 어디서 물이 새나 찾아 보았더니 자동 식기 세척기에서 싱크 쓰레기 처리기에 연결하는 고무가 삭아서 물이 새는 것 이었습니다.

이것을 고치데 필요한 것은 자동 식기 세척기 연결기 (Dishwasher Connector kit) 입니다. 머나드(Menard)에서 $7.97 에 구입 했습니다. 이 연결기는 세척기에 연결된 호스 크기에 따라 연결하게 되어 있습니다. 만약 중간 크기가 맞는 사이즈이면 작은 연결기는 짤라내고 사용하면 됩니다. 저희 집 것은 작은 것에 맞는 크기라 짜르지 않고 그냥 사용해도 되었습니다. 연결기 한 쪽을 쓰레기 처리기에 연결하고 다른 쪽은 자동 식기 세척기 호스에 연결한 다음 양 끝을 죔틀로 조이면 됩니다.

위의 문제를 고치다가 또 한가지 문제를 발견하였습니다. 그것은 싱크 쓰레기 처리기에서 하수도로 나가는 곳에서도 물이 새는 것 입니다. 새는 것이 심하지는 않았지만 고칠 때 한꺼번에 고치는 것이 좋을 듯하여 손을 보기로 하였습니다. 이 문제를 고치기 위해서는 고무링(Mounting Bracket, Menard- $4.89)과 마음대로 구부릴 수 있는 연결 투브 (Flexible discharge tube, 머나드: $12.46) 입니다.  모두 머나드 (Menard)에서 구입 할 수 있습니다. 새로 나온 고무링은 전에 나온 것 보다 디자인이 더 잘 되어 있습니다. 새 것은 튜브 한 쪽을 링 안에 넣을 수 있도록 디자인이 되 어 있습니다. 튜브를 꽂은 고무링을 싱크 쓰레기 처리기에 나사로 달으면 됩니다. 다른 쪽은 하수구로 나가는 곳에 연결하고요.

다 고치 셨다고 생각하시면 물을 틀어서 새는 곳이 있는가 확인하세요. 없으면 성공!!!

I have noticed the floor under the kitchen sink was wet. For a while, I could not find where the water is licking since it wasn't bad. But it was getting worse and I found that the rubber connector connecting the dishwasher to garbage disposal was broken.

The part we need to fix the problem is the dishwasher connector kit which is available at Menard ($7.97). This connector is three size in one. Depending on the size of the hose from dishwasher, we may use the right size of connector for your hose. In my case, the smallest size was the perfect fit. After connecting one end of connector to the garbage disposal and the other to the hose on dishwasher, tighten the both sides using the clamps.

While I was fixing the above problem, I found another spot where the water is licking. The problem spot is where garbage disposal is connected to drainage. The existing connector was slight twisted and was not sealed properly. The problem wasn't bad, but I figured I should fix it while I am at it.The part we need is a mounting bracket and a flexible discharge tube. The mounting bracket and Flexible Discharge Tube costs $4.89 and $12.46, respectively at Menard. New mounting bracket is better design than old one. New one is the cover ring style such that you can insert one end of flex tube inside of ring. It provides better sealing effect.  Once you have one end of flex tube in the ring, install it on the garbage disposal with the screw came with the package. The other end is connected to the drainage.

When you are done with repair, turn on the water and check if there is any leak. If not, congratulation!!!

Lawn Care 1 - Lawn Seeding Updated (잔디 관리 1 - 씨 뿌리기 갱신)

뒷정원에 있던 두 구루의 큰 소나무가 넘어진 자리에 잔디를 깔 것이나 관목을 심을 것이나를 궁리하다 잔디를 깔기로 결정하였습니다. 그리고 이 기회를 이용하여 잔디 까는 것을 실험해 보기로 하였습니다. 실험은 수피리오(Superior) 수리키트, 스캍 (Scott) 수리키트와 잔디 씨를 사용해 보기로 하였습니다.

일주일이 지나니 새싹이 뿌리 덮개 사이로 머리를 내밀고 있습니다. 수피리오 를 사용한 곳이 제일 많이 잔디가 나왔으나 고르지가 못한 편이고 스 캍을 사용한 곳은 많지는 않지만 잔디가 고르 편입니다. 잔디 씨를 뿌린 곳은 거의 잔디가 안 보일 정도입니다.

We needed to do something to cover the bare spot resulted after we lost two big pine trees in the back yard. After debating if we should seed for the grass or plant the bushes, we decided to seed. We also decided to experiment with different repair kits while we have the chance. We tried Superior ($5.95, $4.95 sale) repair kit, Scott repair kit, and grass seed.

In about week, new grass is poking through the mulch, but I am not sure yet how dense the grass is. We had more grass where Superior kit is used, but they were not uniform. The area we used Scott kit has less grass, but is more uniform. The last one third where we only seeded was almost bare.

한 동안은 수피리오 사용한 곳이 제일 유망주 였습니다. 고르지는 않았지만 잔디도 제일 무성하게 잘라고 문제가 없는 듯 하였습니다. 그러다 여름 동안 비가 예년 보다 많이 오더니 문제가 생겼습니다. 수피리오는 뿌리 덮개로 종이를 사용하는데 이 것이 비가 많이 오면서 계속 젖어 있어 잔디가 죽기 시작했습니다 (사진 아래쪽 참조). 비가 제 때 많이 와 주어서인지 도리어 처음에는 잘 안되는 듯 싶던 잔디 씨를 뿌린 곳이 비료도 제대로 않 주었는데도 더 잘 되고 고루 잘 자라 주었습니다.

만일 잔디가 없어진 곳들을 메꿀 생각이시면 잔디 씨를 뿌리고 물을 열심히 주십시오. 제일 경제적이고 잔디들이 생각보다 잘 자라 줍니다. 영 자신이 없으시면 스캍 수리 키트(Scott Repair Kit)를 조금 사용하고 잔디 씨를 뿌려 보세요. 스캍 수리 키트에 들어 있는 수정체들이 언제 물이 더 필요한지를 알려 주기 때문이지요.

For a while, the area covered with Superior kit was very promising. It was greener than other areas even though it still was not uniform. But we had very rainy season during the summer and the problem occurred. The grass with Superior kit started to die because Superior uses the paper as the mulch and it stayed soaked with water (see the picture). Instead, the ares only seeded was doing better. I guess the rainy season helped the growing for the grass even though we did not even use the fertilizer. It was the least dense for our experiment in the beginning.

If you are planning to cover the bare area, prepare the area, seed and give water twice a day. It is most economical and the grass grows better than you expect. If we are still not sure, then use Scott repair kit sparingly with the grass seed. The repair kit will help you to know when to water  since the crystal in repair kit indicates when it needs the water.

일년 후에 스캍 (Scott) 수리키트와 잔디 씨를 뿌린 곳이 차이가 없을 정도로 잘 자라 주었습니다. 수피리오(Superior) 수리키트를 사용한 곳은 테라스 수리 후 다시 손을 봐야만 하겠습니다.

 After one year, the area where we used the Scott repair kit and the grass seed are well covered with the grass and there was no noticeable difference. Even after one year, there was no difference in the area we used the Superior repair kit and we probably have to reseed after the patio repair.
