LA Downtown on Foot - 로스엔젤스 다운타운 도보 여행

몇 번씩 LA에 들렸지만 LA 다운타운를 들려본지가 없어 이번 기회에 돌아보기로 했습니다.
LA 다운타운에 가는 것에 제일 큰 문제가 주차 입니다. 주차료도 만만치 않고. 인터넷을 찾아 본 결과 213 S Spring 에 있는 주차장이 저희들 계획에 제일 편리 할 것 같군요.
The first problem we had to solve was the parking. It is usually very expensive to park in LA downtown. After some internet search, we decided on the parking garage at 213 S Spring Parking. It was the convenient location for us to start and end the downtown tour.

금강산 구경도 식후경이라고 먼저 거픈 배를 채우고 구경하기로. Daikokuya는 전에 들렸기에 이번에는 Marugame Monzo (마루가메 몬조)가 저희들의 첫 번째 들릴 집입니다.
We would fill our stomach before we venture out for the sightseeing. Hence, our first stop is Marugame Monzo since we already tried Daikokuya.

이 식당은 열린 주방에서 직접 만드는 국수로 유명합니다.
This restaurant is known for udon prepared with home made noodles in the open kitchen.

We tried Hot Sansai Udon ($9.95). The soup base was really good and we enjoyed. The soup base for Shrimp Tempura Udon ($12.25) was a little too blend, but the shrimp was done perfectly. Also, the home made noodle was quite good.
더운 Sansai 우동 (9불95전) 국물은 아주 맛있었습니다. 그런데 새우 템푸라 우동 (12불25전) 국물은 맛이 너무 민밋했으나 새우는 정말 맛있게 튀겨졌습니다. 직접 만든 국수는 쫄깃쫄깃한게 맛이었습니다.

Even though we visited toward the end of lunch time, we had to wait fr few minutes. It is very small place. Since the restaurant is located in the busy street, the parking might be a problem even though we are not familiar with the neighborhood.
점심 시간이 거진 끝날 때 쯤 들렸는데도 조금 기다려야 했습니다. 식당이 꽤 번화가에 있어 주차가 어려울 수 있겠습니다. 저희들이 동네 주변을 잘 모르지만..

Extra: Japanese American National Museum

일본의 진주만 공격 후 서해안에 살던 12만 명의 일본계 미국인들의 강제 소개와 감금에 관한 전시품들을 전시합니다.
It contains an exhibit about the forced removal and incarceration of 120,000 Japanese Americans from the West Coast following Japan’s bombing of Pearl Harbor.

 
Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels

2002년에 건축된 이 성당은 1994년 노스릿지 지진으로 파괴된 세인트 비비아나 성당을 데신한 것입니다. 퍼스트모던 건축 양식을 따라 스페인 건축가 라파엘 모네오가 설계하여 지어졌습니다. 성당은 장엄하고 인상작이지만 사회적으로 요구되는 것이 많을 때 그런 커다란 성당이 필요한가하는 쟁점이 있었습니다. 

Built in 2002, the cathedral replaced the Cathedral of Saint Vibiana, which was severely damaged during the 1994 Northridge Earthquake. It embraces the new trend of postmodern architecture designed by Spanish architect Rafael Moneo. The grandeur of the cathedral is impressive, though some questioned the need for such a large-scale project ($150 million) in a city with pressing social needs.

도심지 한가운데 있는 이 상징적 건물의 아트 데코 탑은 아름답기로 유명합니다.  그리고 업무 시간 동안은 일반인에게 열려 있는 두 전망대 중에 하나가 있습니다. 다른 하나는 월트 디즈니 음악관입니다.
The Art Deco tower of  this iconic building in downtown is supposed to be very beautiful inside and out. It also offers one of two public observation platforms during business hours. You may skip this if you’re going to do the Walt Disney Concert Hall Tour.

이 음악관은 릴리안 디즈니가 월트 디즈니를 기념하여 로스 엔절레스 시에 준 선물입니다. 유명한 건축가인 프랭트 게리가 설계를 하였는데 뒤틀어진 쇠붙이들이 은색의 꽃처럼 피는 것 같습니다.
This gift to Los Angeles was made by Lillian Disney in honor of Walt Disney. Designed by renowned architect Frank Gehry, the Walt Disney Concert Hall's twisted-metal landmark building bursts forth like a strange silver flower.

혼자 할 수 있는 자유 관광을 매일 할 수 있고 한 시간 정도 걸리고 전망대가 관광의 마지막 장소입니다. 저희가 들린 시간에는 안내 요원이 해주는 관광만 되고 기라리는 시간이 너무 길어 생략했습니다.
Free, self-guided audio tours as well as guided group tours that are available every day and last one hour. This tour ends at Walt Disney Concert Hall’s observation deck. However, we skipped the tour because only guided tour with long wait was available on the day of our visit.

Extra: If you are interested in modern and contemporary art

The Broad and Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) Most reviews suggest to spend 3 - 4 hours for both museums.

Angels Flight Railway (엔젤스 플라이트 기차)

엔젤스 플라이트는 1901 년에 로스 엔젤스 인클라인 철도 회사로 시작하였습니다. 이 케이블 카는 로스 엘젤스 중심가에 있는 가파른 벙커 힐을 오르락 내리락 했습니다. 사고 등으로 두번이나 운행 중지를 하였지만 "세상에서 가장 짧은 기차길"로 알려져 있는 이 케이블 카는 그랜드 센트랄 마켓과 켈리포니아 플라자, 현대 미술관을 연결해 줍니다.
\In 1901, Angeles Flight began its run as a funicular called the Los Angeles Incline Railway, offering a ride up or down steep Bunker Hill in Downtown Los Angeles. After a couple of shutdowns with the problems, the "Shortest Railway in the World" connects Grand Central Market with Bunker Hill's California Plaza Watercourt and the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA).

이 마켓은 1917년부터 운영되고 있는데 엘에이의 부유층들이 채소, 빵, 꽃, 커피 등을 사로 오는 곳이었습니다. 이 곳에 있는 음식점들을 돌아 보았는데 먹어 보지는 않했습니다. 배가 안 고파서인지 음식들이 흥미를 끌지 못하던구요. 값도 만만치 않고요.
This market has been operating since 1917 and was the place for LA’s stylish residents to buy their produce, baked goods, flowers, and coffee. We looked around the food stalls and we did not try anything. The foods at market weren't really inviting. Maybe we were not hungry enough to try them.

굉장히 흥미를 끄는 책방이라 들리고 싶었는데 약속 시간이 촉박해 못 들린 곳입니다.
This is one place where I was very interested to visit, but we didn't have the time with our next appointment.
