코비드 따분함에서 벗어나기 위해 하루 일정으로 미네소타 북해안으로 단풍 구경을 갔습니다. 많은 사람들이 저희들과 같은 생각을 했던 것 같습니다. 가는 곳마다 관광객들이 많드군요. 이번에는 전 왔을 때 들리지 못한 곳들을 찾았습니다.
We made the one day trip to the north shore for the Fall color just to escape the COVID isolation. We guess we were not the only one with the thought. Most places were crowded with visitors. We tried the places we missed on our last trip.
Enger Park
아름다운 항구 도시 덜 루스가 내려다 보이는 엥거 공원(Enger Park)에는 엥거 타워와 덜 루스의 자매 도시인 오하라-이스미 (Ohara-Isumi) 시가 선물한 미일 평화의 종이 일본 정원 내에 있습니다. 공원 땅은 덜 루스에서 성공한 사업가이자 노르웨이 이민인 버트 엥거 (Bert Enger)가 도시에 기증하였고 1939 년에 노르웨이의 Olav 왕세자가 헌납했습니다.
Overlooking the lovely port city of Duluth, Enger Park features a tower and the American-Japanese Peace Bell in he Japanese garden, a gift from Duluth’s sister city of Ohara-Isumi. The park land was left to the city by Bert Enger, a successful businessman in Duluth and native Norwegian. It was dedicated in 1939 by Crown Prince Olav of Norway.

On June 15, 1920, three African-American circus workers, Elias Clayton, Elmer Jackson, and Isaac McGhie, suspects in an assault case, were taken from jail and lynched by a white mob of thousands. Rumors had circulated that six African Americans had raped and robbed a nineteen-year-old woman. A physician who examined her found no physical evidence of rape.
Residents of Duluth began to work on ways to commemorate the victims of the lynching. The Clayton Jackson McGhie Scholarship Committee set up a fund in 2000. In 2003, a plaza and statues were dedicated in Duluth to the three men who were killed.

Baking from scratch with organic and local ingredients since 1983, we went in for some goodies for the road. Even though there weren’t many varieties because of COVID, we bought a mixed variety of cookies and bread. They weren’t as good as we expected. Maybe our expectation was too high. But, the customer service was really friendly and helpful.

Because of COVID, their main store was closed, but they were selling goodies in the box from the hut in the back. The chocolates are still delicious.

In 2015, the beach was officially opened for public use after Silver Bay and the Minnesota DNR arranged to lease more than 30 acres at the site. The strikingly colored sand of the beach resulted from taconite waste rock dumped into Lake Superior decades ago. It is a beautiful black beach contrasting to the color of surroundings. The breach is a short walk from the parking lot.
Little Two Harbors/Split rock
Direction: Take the first right after the entrance gate of lighthouse.
등대 매표구를 지나 첫번째 오른 쪽 길을 따라 가십시오.
이번 길에는 약 1 세기 전에 작은 어촌 마을이 존재했던 리틀 투 하버 (Little Two Harbors)에 있는 페블 해변 (Pebble Beach)에 들렸습니다. 해변 끝에 있는 섬이 엘링슨 섬입니다. 또다른 모습의 등대를 볼 수 있는 곳입니다.
On this visit, we visited the Pebble Beach on Little Two Harbors where a small fishing village existed about a century ago. Ellingson Island sits just offshore. It has another view of lighthouse.
Gooseberry Fall (구스베리 폭포)
61 번 고속도로와 같은 높이에 있는 게이트웨이 플라자에서 보는 구스베리 강 및 슈피리어 호수 유역의 탁 트인 전망이 아름답습니다.

Level with Highway 61, the Gateway Plaza has a beautiful panoramic view of the Gooseberry River and Lake Superior basin.
Hanabi Japanese Cuisine

새우 튀김 (16불), 마키 비 콤보 (15불), 하나비 롤 (15불)을 먹었습니다. 음식은 훌륭하지는 않았지만 좋았고 근처에 다시 온다면 들릴 것입니다. 코비드 룰 때문에 테이블이 한정되어 있었지만 그리 오래 기다리지 않았습니다.
We have tried Shrimp tempura ($16), Maki B combo ($15), and Hanabi roll ($15). The food wasn’t excellent, but good and we may stop again if we are around the neighborhood. Since they were following the COVID rules, they had limited tables, but the wait wasn’t too long.
